Food shops and markets
{Subtitle}
With its varied population, Bradford offers a wealth of food stores of all
kinds. This page lists a sample:
Supermarkets
For your day-to-day groceries, you'll probably want to go to a supermarket.
Here are a few:
- Aldi (recently opened, close to the Forster Square industrial estate)
- ASDA (in Shipley, walking distance from the Management Centre)
- KwikSave (formerly FoodGiant, on the industrial estate along Canal Road)
- Marks & Spencer (in the city centre on Bank Street)
- Morrison's (one in the city centre on the corner of Westgate and John
Street; another on the industrial estate along Ingleby Road)
- Sainsbury's (none that we know of in Bradford)
- Sunwin House (in the city centre on the corner of Sunbridge Road and Godwin
Street you must go to its basement; it's quite well hidden)
- Off-license shops all over town usually also carry a limited selection
of (canned and fresh) food stuff.

Vegetables, meat, bread
In addition to the supermarkets and off-license shops, there are quite a lot
of greengrocers, butchers, bakers, and the lot in Bradford. Here are a few
places:
- Up and down Oak Lane. The quality varies, but there is a very good (halal)
butcher on the corner of St Mary's Road and Oak Lane, some supermarkets,
and a number of greengrocers and bakeries.
- In the city centre, from John Street and its indoors market down. Try
also Kirkgate Market.

Delicatessen and continental food
Supermarkets like ASDA, Marks & Spencer, Sainsbury's and Sunwin House carry
quite an assortment of delicatessen and continental foodwares. There are also
a number of smaller shops where you can find special things:
- MWM meat (sausages, hams, etc.) and other products from mainland Europe:
near the top of Oak Lane, on the corner with Heaton Road.
- Renata's (sausages, cheeses, lots of other things): in James Street, city
centre (small street between Kirkgate shopping centre and John Street).
- Aldi, being of German origin, carries some continental meat products,
beers, etc.

Indian and Pakistani food
Well, Manningham and other parts of Bradford are full of larger and (mostly)
smaller shops. Try Oak Lane and its surroundings for a comprehensive start.
In addition, ASDA and other supermarkets carry some Indian products. You might
also want to give KwikSave (formerly FoodGiant) a try: they stock many Asian
foodwares in larger quantities and considerably lower prices than other supermarkets.
You find KwikSave on the industrial estate along Canal Road (along with Staples
and others).

Chinese food
The best we could find is one in Leeds, which has a large collection of Chinese
food (including fresh vegetables and frozen meat), plus all sorts of accessories:
- Wing Lee Hong, Chinese Supermarket Ltd.
6 Edward Street, Leeds, LS2 7NT, tel. (0113) 245 7203
Open 10am - 6pm, 7 days per week; closed on Bank Holidays (only).
